The Chester First Aid Squad is a 100% volunteer organization and we never charge for our services. Our members volunteer countless thousands of
hours each and every year serving our community. In 2011, we responded to over
860 emergency calls in the community.
Chester Borough and Chester Township
generously support our operating expenses with your tax dollars to keep our
ambulances on the road, but we solicit additional funds for state-of-the-art
equipment purchases through fundraising and donation efforts.
Past donations have helped support the
1) Personal Protective Equipment – ANSI
compliant high visibility Extrication Gear to protect our members at scenes of
Motor Vehicle Crashes.
2) Stryker Power-PRO™Stretchers – Reduces the risk of
the most common EMS injury – back injuries – through the electronic raising/lowering
of the stretcher. These stretchers can also accommodate heavier patients.
3) ToughBook Laptop Computers – These
computers allow us to enter patient care reports electronically, as well as
retrieve valuable medical and other information when needed.
4) EMS Bicycles – We now have two Trek Marlin
off road capable bicycles outfitted with emergency warning equipment and medical
supplies, which allow our EMT’s to reach patients more quickly in heavy
crowd/traffic or other conditions which might make it difficult for our
ambulances to access a patient or scene.
The following are several projects that
we are seeking to fund:
1) Specialized Support Unit (approx.
$200,000) For the past few years, we have operated an old
ambulance as our support unit. Although it is functional, we are limited in
both crew occupancy (for safety reasons only the driver and one passenger can ride on it) and equipment we can carry. A different style vehicle would
allow us to be better prepared with both equipment and manpower for the
situations this vehicle is called to handle. Some calls that this vehicle
responds to – Fire scenes for Firefighter Rehab, Search & Rescues,
Machinery Accidents, Multiple Casualty Incidents, etc. Click here to learn more about the unit.
2) First Response Vehicle (approx. $55,000) This
vehicle is slated to be a 4 wheel drive Chevrolet Tahoe or equivalent vehicle.
This would function as a first response vehicle, allowing a member or members
to quickly respond to a scene and start care before the ambulance arrives. In
addition, this vehicle would play a significant role in the winter, when
inclement weather can render many driveways in Chester inaccessible by
ambulance. This vehicle could transport a fully immobilized patient and EMT
from off road or otherwise impassable areas to a waiting ambulance. Currently
we must use a police SUV or carry the patient by hand.
CFAS has always been aggressive and innovative in embracing the latest technologies and techniques to better serve our
community. Your generous support helps make our visions a reality.
